Can’t say I’ve programmed it (even with an emulator) but I find it interesting (studied Physics at uni so we covered quantum mechanics but not within the concept of computing).
One cool description I heard once was that quantum computers “borrow processing power from the multiverse” - although I don’t buy the multiverse theory tbh - far too inefficient with processing power.
I can see how people might say that, due to the number of quantum states that seem to dwarf the number of particles in our universe.
When should we worry away SHA-256 being solved by quantum computers? Bearing in mind the quantum tech is probably more advanced than publicly announced.
its weird to me that this is always brought up, we should be worried about ecdsa (maybe), not sha2
🤚 excruse prease ser, why?
Shor’s algorithm speedup can in theory calculate private keys from public keys. I don’t see how grovers search would help much with sha2, and thats not even an interesting attack.
Yeah, that would suck. Didn’t realise that was more susceptible.
Remember Q* and “What did Ilya see?”? With speculation that somehow the maths improvements with AI had somehow worked out P = NP. That would have also sucked.
I read this, does that count?

You could all probably fit in a hallway closet. Maybe 2 closets if you include the larps
Is there any practical design to try build a quantum computer from scratch
The more qubits you add to build larger and larger quantum states, the harder it is to protect the system from heat, noise, cosmic rays. In the presence of noise the quantum state becomes entangled with the environment and then it quickly collapses into its eigenstates which we call decoherence (it behaves classically again).
To maintain the quantum state, you need many more qubits to handle and repair errors and decoherences. They distinguish physical and logical qubits in these cases.
Physical qubits are used for error correction, where the logical qubits are the number of effective qubits you can reliably use for computation.
You may need a million qubits for 1000 logical qubits, but this tech could improve. To break bitcoin or simulate black holes, you need about 7000 logical qubits, which may be 7 to 10 million physical qubits, which is really hard .
I think I can safely say that nobody understands quantum mechanics.

Wow this is really cool! I'm def gonna read that paper on quantum theory 🔥
im trying to use quantum mechanics to get my ex back
