My ex: Do I get to keep thosr green paintings you did for me.
Me: I thought you didn't want them. You gave them back. So I gave them to a buddy. (True)
Ex: 😠I thought you made them for me? And people say things they don't mean when they're upset.
Me: Yeah well I was upset you returned a gift, that I worked on!
Nostriches. What is the best path? Return the paintings to her? Or let my buddy keep them?

None. We are close to 50. Spent a year together.
Then this one is easy. They belong to your buddy!
If so that’s be the only reason I’d even remotely consider. Otherwise a returned gift no longer belongs to the recipient.
