There is something curious, if you inquire about the percentage of taxes/tributes throughout history, whether in the feudal system, in rome, in the city states, etc, it is around 10%, it has been relatively stable (eye, it has not always been so, I am generalizing, for example in the Roman empire it was around 5% 😂). But since the foundation of modern states, this percentage tends to 100%, it just grows and grows and never reduces, simply because the current states are totally inefficient. The question we should ask ourselves is, where does this lead us to? Because it obviously leads to violence and destruction of society as we know it. The real question is, when will it happen?

People used to raise rebellions for a 3% tax increase, now it's considered normal to be taxed over 50% of your income in some countries.

Which makes people desire to make as little income as possible and make assets under the table or take government benefits until the government collapses.

This is not true. Well, true on the surface but not true for real. Slaves and surfs in Rome paid 100% tax to their lords. Not counting lords as the government is misleading. They are government. And if you count them in, and also count in their soldiers and work enforcers and admins, the governments of Rome and tipical western "democratic" government will be very much comparable from all perspectives. Of course, corporations these days should also be counted into gov.
