Just to me “prepper” means irrational stockpiling of stuff to appease fear. Being prepared is a practical approach to keeping your family safe. I store supplies equivalent to a 3-4 week camping trip. Maybe it helps in a natural disaster or maybe we just enjoy ourselves at a new national park. Sounds arbitrary, I know. But in my head it feels like there’s a mindset difference.

I appreciate this. I do about 6 months, after that who cares

Modern prepping does often seem to be fear-based. There are things that overlap with age old ways of living, and that is what I've come to be more interested in. Historically people had a low time preference, had to prepare for winter, knew how to preserve foods, etc. This was all just a natural part of a household until about 5 minutes ago when we grew too accustomed to globalization, complex systems, and outsourcing responsibility.
