Agreed, Google isn't much better. Nobody is going to give you freedom, you have to take it.

This is why I don't allow automatic firmware updates. Never know when they're going to decide to deny me the ability to do what I want with the device I own.

Even degoogled phones still use proprietary firmware, they are a temporary solution the ultimate are linux phones, with foss firmware.

Absolutely, but that requires them to actually exist in an affordable and functional format.

For now I choose the best option I'm able to have within my means.

Indeed but pinephones already exist and can run around 20 different distros already.

I do, pinephone+mobian(Debian mobile) and a librem5 with pureOS.

Early adopter on Linux phones I meant...try a pinephone, but the pinephone pro will be a good hardware as daily driver.
