It’s not a religion per se since a religion is the habit of virtue that inclines the will to give God the worship he deserves, and they don’t believe in a God. I would say it’s a coping mechanism for not wanting to adhere to an objective moral standard and instead be able to justify one’s actions regardless of how morally corrupt and deranged they may be.
