I know we love zaps but as far as I am aware zaps can be faked. If I am wrong please correct me. If I am correct, then I think people ought to be aware of this, because the passion and excitement for zaps leads people to think of new uses for zaps that presume zaps are trustworthy. If zaps can be faked, then things built with zaps must take this into consideration.
The reason I bring this up is not only for awareness but also because I do not think zaps are the end-all-be-all of value measurement online.
For example, proof of work cannot be faked and it is way less complicated than zaps β it can be entirely contained within a single event and no additional software is needed to make it work. Unlike throwing generational wealth at each other 37 sats at a time trying to take down custodial wallet providers, proof of work is an efficient and verifiable way. Instead of spending bitcoin, you can spend time and energy to create signal. It isn't really being used, but it could be.
I like zaps. I like proof of work. I've tried zaps. I'd like to try proof of work.
