I have heard I should be careful what I install that isn't on the Play Store. Will they have the app there soon? Maybe I'll just use the web app for now...

Meh, i really don't go by that. You should follow the same rules that would apply to installing something on your desktop computer. I'm actually trying to find apps provided by companies that I trust that are not installed through google play. That way they can't be removed from google play or features taken away.
