Later today ill be babysitting my nephew he is 10. He's on summer vacation and I can tell he is bored. Makes me sad a bit that he doesnt have kids his age around where he lives and it seems like kids dont get together like they used to to hang out. Lucky for him, I'm the cool active uncle so I try to see him often to kick the soccer ball around, go to the pool, talk, play fifa etc. When I was younger I was blessed most the families on my road had kids my age so we were always outside playing basketball, street hockey, roller blading, playing made up games. It's how I became so competitive, I was usually the youngest and at a disadvantage but I would practice a lot after we hung out and I eventually started winning in all the games we played until most of my friends didnt want to play anymore because they couldnt win 😂 .

Back to my nephew. I'm thinking of setting him up on a weekly allowance of Bitcoin for during chores in the house for his parents. I'm going do a weekly chart of multiple tasks and he will have to get it checked off for each day. Do you all have any good ideas of good things I can reward him for doing daily like making his bed?

I'm deciding between Breez and Phoenix. Leaning towards Breez because the apps tab that has bitrefill. This way he can buy Playstation gift cards himself and hopefully he thinks twice about it after he truly starts embracing stacking sats and savings. Shill me the easiest self custodial lightning wallet if you think it would be suited better for this use case.

My newphew told me a couple weeks ago he wants to save money so he can go to the USA to watch World Cup games live in 2026. Im hoping the bull market is around the corner and it opens his eyes to why saving in something scarce like Bitcoin is the way to go. The orange pilling has begun.

Anything zapped on this post will go to my nephew later after I set him up on Breez.

Also he got this for me a couple months ago for my birthday 💜. I got it on my work desk.

Wish me Luck!

Good luck my nephews are too loud to try

Great Convo! Loving this! Bitcoin dad's rock!

You're a great uncle.

My boys are around his age.

My oldest son has a phone and I've installed RobinHood app on there.

He gets $10 a week in Bitcoin automatic purchases, quietly stacking sats. He's still mad at me for not letting him sell at the 60k price level in 2021.

He brings it up all the time, "dad you solid have let me cash out."

... nope.

Thanks man. That's a great story about him being mad not being able to sell at the high. Tell him hindsight is 20/20 haha. This is the way! He"ll thank you down the line at 1million Bitcoin!

Make bed, take trash bins to road for pickup and return bins after pickup, same for recycling bins, got dogs? Walk, feed, pickup after, etc. Great job Funcle Ivan🤙🏻

In addition to these great suggestions, maybe encourage him to do things like a summer reading goal (can be anything as long as he finds it interesting), researching things he finds interesting, etc

Also, 10 years old is old enough to learn to help with laundry, dishes, light help cleaning around the house and outside yardwork 😃

have a great day being a kid again and have fun!

I miss the old days and I can align with your statement. It's sad that our kids don't know how to be kids any more but rather text each other on their phones etc... make being a kid great again!

Thanks for the Zaps and suggestions for my Nephew! 💜💜💜

How it went

Onboarded to Breez with $120 worth of sats he says he will give me $100 from his piggy bank next time I see him. $20 on me.

He wanted to preorder FIFA. Right from breez app, I showed him the bitrefill tab he bought $100 PlayStation gift card with his sats.

Then I made him actually do everything on his own. Loaded his account and he was able to do it all.

Told him one more thing there is this cool social media app called Nostr and I told him that I posted I was teaching him Bitcoin and that any Zap on the post would go to him. He was like no way that so many people sent bitcoin to him that he didn't knew. Mind blown!

I sent over the Bitcoin you guys zapped to him now. I explained that if he made his bed everyday, read at least 30 minutes, took out the trash, and practice gratitude daily towards his parents I would pay him $10 worth of satoshis per week to him as Bitcoin allowance. He was pumped.

I explained to him the importance of saving and to think twice about spending so fast because $35 worth of Bitcoin could be worth $1000 one day.

We proceed to go outside to play soccer. He challenges me to a pk shootout and he goes I want to bet 5000 satoshis if I win. Back of my mind I'm thinking is this a degenerate shitcoin gambler in the making 😂 I proceed to demolish him and take the 5000sats and tell him to never gamble.

We headed back and I only orange pilled him a little before ending with some fifa. Told him to save in Bitcoin now he wants to move more of his piggy bank money into Bitcoin. So that will be for the next time! Today was a good day.

Hope you had a great day with your nephew yesterday :)

Great initiative, it is good to reward them in order to create incentives, but at some point you'll have to make sure to reduce the allowance on his duties and create an environment where he will be rewarded better but in the terms of going the extra mile.

Knowing that true effort and leaving his comfort zone will reap him the greatest benefits in the long run.

I love this thought about creating incentive to go the extra mile. Appreciate it. Definately something I'll implement now.

Great podcast with nostr:npub1s5yq6wadwrxde4lhfs56gn64hwzuhnfa6r9mj476r5s4hkunzgzqrs6q7z and nostr:npub19jkuyl0wgrj8kccqzh2vnseeql9v98ptrx407ca9qjsrr4x5j9tsnxx0q6 today. I ordered the board game after listening. I look forward to playing this with my nephew who I on boarded to the bitcoin lightning network couple weeks ago. The journey continues.

If you want to check out the game go here https://www.freemarketkids.com/collections/games

Me and nostr:npub1yrg4fkd7y509cenf3eg66rrnn2sffl7tj75ejkjwhmyv8k2s39wsqhxqcj took a look at this in Miami and he picked one up. Still haven’t played it myself but it is on my list. I’m just afraid of getting addicted.

Nice yea I'm looking forward to playing this I'll let you know how me and my nephew liked it. Be cool to get online version of this one day so I can play people online for some sats or even orange pill some friends that are far away from me.

I've debated rewarding my daughters with sats for doing chores quite a bit. And my conclusion was not to do it. Chores are a part of life and need to be done. We won't be around to reward then forever. So I only reward them for chores if they go above and beyond. And we use sats when we play games. Once they're older I'm gonna try to play monopoly using sats instead of monopoly money.

Yea I understand but because they to young to work it kind of replaces work and shows you only get paid if the work gets done. Someone mentioned rewarding going over and beyond which I'm going implement because in real world that's how you get ahead by doing great work. I also like that he is now learning how to manage some sats and next bull market will open his eyes on why its the best to save in sats will be a game changer. My nephew wants to play FIFA for sats now trying to hustle me 😂. I got start preaching not to bet because it can lead to losing a lot of sats like nostr:npub1rtlqca8r6auyaw5n5h3l5422dm4sry5dzfee4696fqe8s6qgudks7djtfs 😂.

How dare you lol 😂

That's exactly what I was debating. Work vs chores. Where to draw the line.

Another idea that crossed my mind for rewarding chores would to set standards of excellence. Like rewarding them if they do their chore/s the first time without having to tell them to do it again.

Been using something similar for chores for our kids. I created an spreadsheet that I can print out, at the end of the week I enter the chores into the digital copy and it auto tally's the amount and then pay them sats via lightning.

If they miss a day or chore, they still have to do it the next day, but they don't get paid for it.

I love the funcle sign!

I pay my kids their weekly allowance in Bitcoin.

Their allowance amount is set in sats, not USDs and that helps them understand the value of Bitcoin.

Cool post, another option is to get him into the habit of saving 20% of everything he earns/ receives. Give him the 80% fiat to spend and stack 20% #BTC in a Lightning/on chain wallet that’s hard to convert to fiat and spend (phoenix, Muun) After a while, ask him what he has to show for his fiat. It’s taken my son a year, but he is getting it
