Very strange, I posted a note to only two private relays, and within 10 minutes it somehow propagated to other relays πŸ€”

How does this happen?

Did someone boost it?

Must be but who is running this service

Relays implementing propagation?

The relays I posted to are in my control so they didn't. Some kind of app or client discovered it and rebroadcasted or something

Are your private relays set to allow public read access?

Most only lock down the write access, so everything is still public.

Unless it's a note like the DMs where the contents can only be decrypted by a certain key, notes are not private in and of themselves and most clients are designed to propagate notes to other relays when you interact with them. If one of those is a multiplexer relay it'll get blasted to a lot of relays.

I think there's a note type that is designed to stay private but it's not yet standardised or supported by clients or relays.

What do you mean β€œyou posted it to only two relays”, how do you pick?

Using highlighter.com

I see six relays on Highlighter

When i am not signed in, so it might have a default list in addition to the ones you are on? Just guessing

You can make custom relay sets

Relays pull from other relays and also push events to other relays. Is this not how relays should propagate events?

LMAO

Thought we already discussed it's about anti censorship, not privacy in that same thread?

Do you have some kind of problem with me?

because what you just tweeted was exactly my point.

in other words… how does this happen? rebroadcasting!

Are you selectively ignoring that the point of the service is to prevent censorship?

no.
