I completely agree that what business insider did was absolute garbage and they are a joke of an organization. But, something just feels wrong about a bunch of nostr lovers and free speech maximalists running to report a post to the central authority to be taken down. Isn't this kind of everything we are against here?

I get that doxxing is a vile and dangerous thing to do to someone and I have no sympathy for the author of this hit piece. But something just feels dirty about running to daddy Elon to get the post taken down.

Please let me know if I'm wrong here. I'd really love to hear some other opinions.

Yes, you are wrong. All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.

You yourself said that what BI did is absolute garbage. Well, someone needs to clean up the garbage. If it's not the people who created the garbage, then it's up to the website where they posted it for profit to take action, especially since it violates their terms of service.

It's also fine if you (or anyone else) doesn't want to participate in cleaning up the garbage. But honestly, I'm quite disappointed that you posted this note... "running to daddy Elon" and all...

It's a shame that you're dissapointed that I would post this note. I think conversations like this are very important when figuring out how to build the next generation of the internet and avoid the mistakes of the past.

I think it is a slippery slope that we are dealing with. What some consider to be "garbage" others do not. And while in this case we agree that this piece is trash, in a less clear cut situation, I dont think that reporting it because it violates their terms of service is a very cypher-punk way to dealing with things.

Cleaning up garbage on a landfill isn't going anywhere.

I would not have known who fiatjaf was if, like all other BS that's written on the web, this was just ignored.

Collectively hating on someone like that, just makes it easier for them to write more articles on how awful she thinks you are. Why start a feedback-loop like that?

All it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to waste time on reactive stuff like this.

Hell, even writing this here feels silly in that light. #optout #build
