It’s not inconceivable to think that one day we’ll have phones powerful enough and batteries efficient enough that LLMs can run on them in a consumer friendly manner.
The insistence on moving everything to the ‘cloud’ (someone else’s computer) is shortsighted.
It’s intentional, tech giants want everyone thinking the cloud is better so they control it all, and so far people generally buy it. But i agree that’s dumb
It all feels cyclical. We started with massive ‘personal’ computers that took up entire rooms, main frames, then went to tiny computers that everyone owned, and now we’re back to massive main frames we just call the cloud
