I still have two 212 phone numbers from around 20 years ago. Ported them away from Verizon a while back and set them up on Google Voice.

New York City has 6 area codes.

212 — originally citywide

718 — added for the outer boroughs

917 — added for mobile phones

646 — for more mobile phones

347 — for even more mobile phones

929 — for still more mobile phones
