Let me tell You:

It starts with the manufacturing. There weren't any explosives added to these devices.

What they probably did was adding an elco capacitor on the incoming power from the battery. That generates a higher electrical current when needed.

Then a bunch of tantulum capacitors in a row were added on the circuit board.

The receiver gets a special signal that makes the elco capacitor discharge all current to the wrong side of the tantulum capacitors which will make them explode and do harm.

I've done this before in a test setting and it will generate a relatively big explosion.
