debating bringing a guitar or buying one there 🤔
Discussion
if you love it, as any good musician should, buy one there. (then give it away.) but give it away with the hard case so they can bring it home and remember the event. when they take it out to play.
you're going to have international travel to deal with, hard case or bust 300$+-
my 2 cents as a guitarist, just buy an affordable acoustic electric guitar, that you can hook into the PA... look at boroughs guitars out of NY, they're cheap and they have acoustic electric models...
plus you can do a creative raffle of some kind and give it away, putting the funds from the highest bidder towards nostr developers.........
:)
full size guitar hard cases are $300 more than regular checked baggage?
you have to buy the hard case, and then you have extra baggage fees in both directions....... baggage fees are min 50-70 (x2) plus the case, 125 (min) as a decade ago they were 75 for a decent one, on a swan's deal.)
i wanted to bring a guitar, but the regular checked baggage is already expensive for me. so have been dreading the expense. but i was wondering if guitar cases are *special* & even more expensive than paying extra for regular checked baggage. and so you’re saying guitar cases ARE indeed at least twice more expensive than regular checked baggage?
depends how far you're going, and i'm assuming since you speak perfect english you live here in the USA.
just domestically, the bag charges are as follows for - united airlines anyway. each airline is different.
"domestic flights within the United States (UAL) are subject to the following checked bag fees: *First bag: $35.00 USD. The second bag is $45.00 USD. The bag must also be accompanied by a third and final charge of $150.00 USD. " via https://www.mozartproject.org/can-i-bring-a-guitar-on-united-airlines/#7
since it's international, odds are in their favor it will be more expensive than that.
🙏🙏🙏❣️appreciate the info so much. everything is too damn expensive! 😂😂
you're so totally and humbly welcome. yeah it is ! i feel you there. =( blame the new world order situation, without actually going there at the moment.
this should give you some idea:

but to clarify i meant
baggage charges in 2 directions (there and back home)
then the cost of the hard case.
bring a half size. I had one made that fits in an airplane overhead bin
maybe some of us could chip in for an inexpensive guitar then donate to AWAKE or someone? i dunno.
looking up half size case online seems to just be a soft case? could not do that w one of my most cherished possessions. 🥲🙏❣️
TLDR if you're trying to bring your favorite guitar internationally just to have it there, its going to consume you trying to manage where it is at all times, making sure the maids dont steal it, making sure it doesnt get lost at the event, making sure you dont misplace it while drinking (if you do), etc.
just leave it at home. <3 the memories attached to an instrument are irreplacable.
had a halfsize built for travel, comes carryon. fits overhead 🤙
