Smothering them in castor oil is what comes up intuitively right now for you. Maybe get some organic cotton gloves and sleep with castor oil hand mask overnight.

Do you eat carbs? If so, also reduce that.

Depending on laws where you are, you might be able to get some CBD infused lotions or ointments. I've heard they can provide pretty decent pain relief. I haven't heard about them being used specifically for hands, though. And that doesn't help fix the problem, just reduce the pain, so I'd look into how to help prevent the problem, too.

I've tried it. But I haven't seen any studies that show CBD is better than placebo topically

It helped my wife with some of her joint pain, and she was pretty impressed with it compared to other stuff she'd tried. That's obviously not conclusive, though.
