Other comparisons of writers who covered these era - Potash, Fanon, Chomsky, Lawrence Lipton as well as autobiographies and stories of popular celebrities of the time - Mohammad Ali, Bob Marley, Elvis, and more, the beatnik clash etc - all share a close resemblance on how CIA was ran and the control of the military industry during this time frame.

I think placing blame on one single point of failure is an incorrect take in this case (and many other larger than life stories)
