do we need copy JSON?

No, but we need « quote note » and maybe « attach to note » (dunno if there is a NIP for this) for people running episodic content. Ideally, it would display differently than a reply. (An option to reference it on both notes would be great creating prev and next buttons)

“Attach note” for episodic content wouldn’t be able to modify an existing note. But creating a purpose made meta note that references the serie and the episodes. This could be then read on client side, and create “prev” “next” and episode number selector if wished.
