The Irish have a significant history of trauma at the hands of the English, once I learned about it in depth I couldn’t help but see the effects of these inter generational traumas in my own family. To walk around as an unattached American when I’m directly dealing with the consequences of this ancestral burden is a special kind of uniquely American hubristic arrogance which I held for far too many years.

You can’t outrun the past.
