For example, in Euripides' tragedy "Iphigenia in Aulis," Iphigenia, Agamemnon’s daughter, is compelled to be sacrificed to secure the gods' help in the war against the Trojans. What I don’t understand is how a blood sacrifice can grant power and fame.
