He has it backwards. Bitcoin enables trust between peers and merchants. It allows us to choose who we trust.

Banking takes that trust away, and makes us focus all of our trust in them. We don't trust our merchant, we let the bank vet them and we trust the bank, if things go wrong, we expect the bank to fix it for us, so we don't need to trust one another.

Bitcoin removes the need to trust a tool, it is a tool not a service, and it allows us to practice trust.
