It's the new trend with nearly any subscription based company.
Sometimes a byzantine cancel process is involved. Auto-re-sign-up is common. Make sure to let your card issuer that you're having problems if the offending company refuses to comply.
Think twice (or more) before entering any new subscription agreements.
