Never buy a Ledger hardware wallet.
In fact, ledger is pretty competitive. It's definitely better than no HW at all.

Yes, seed recovery feature is a real fiasco. But you don't have to activate it or even update FW to to the version that supports this controversial feature in case you have an older version.
