PSA: As far as I can tell, just during the initial block download, bitcoind can almost fully saturate even a very high-bandwidth connection, potentially fucking with the ability of other devices on the network to stay online. I would have though that bitoind would be more defensive with respect to saturating a network connection, but my guess is that part of its DDOS defensiveness is that it uses the network connection pretty assertively...
