Ooh LOTR is definitely one of my favorites! I love fantasy/adventure. But I also enjoy watching action shows like Jack Ryan and movies like John Wick.
My all time favorite is #theblacklist. I haven’t found anything to replace it yet. LOL.

Anything that doesn't use DEI/ESG hiring/casting policies, push satanic agendas, initiate nostalgia programming, induce mass trauma, it's not subject to CIA/Tavistock editors/censoring, etc.
It's not fun to use a negative definition, but, considering how much of all the above BS is crammed into nearly everything these days, it would be a miracle to see something with good characters, good plot, good humor, and even excellent villains.

Miracles can happen. In counting on a few, myself. But your scale of miracle is a lot larger than mine, though, of course, it's all smaller than God's capable of. 😅

Dark skies was criminally cancelled early, as was firefly.
I like si-fi that makes me think, and keeps me guessing.
Oh, and epic stories in well developed universes that give scope for the fandom to build upon in-universe. And that work to be respected.

LOTR is definitely my favorite, both the films and the books.
I tend to prefer science fiction and fantasy, but will enjoy anything with intriguing plot, original characters and convincing world-building.
I have grown tired of obvious agendas, "deconstructions," "subverting expectations," "post-modern takes on ..." and dragging actors out of retirement to shoot a sequel of that movie that was big 20 years ago because nostalgia is an easy sell. Let's just go back to good storytelling that's not pretentious.
