Do you meditate? If so, how did you get started? What do you meditate about?

everything is meditation if you are mindful & present
can meditate while watching tv, mopping the floor, in the bath
more interesting question is maybe
when ~dont~ you meditate?
idk
Fair. How deep can you go while watching tv or mopping? I feel like I put everything into every task and never get deep enough while multitasking.
Yes, I found that meditation is a good practice for enhancing mindfulness. I got started through Tara Brach, fantastic free meditations you can find through her podcast (which I found perfect as you can pre-download them and then when you listen to them, you have your phone on airplane mode and have no disturbances as you listen). She guides you and supports your understanding behind her meditation with her talks. Both are important (as I'll explain below.) So you can listen to a talk in the morning and then, leaving time for reflection, set aside time in the afternoon to do a meditation. Do this daily, and you will begin a major shift.
Just like you take your body to the gym to strengthen your muscles, so is the same by taking your mind to meditation. But showing up to the gym without guidance can leave you a little lost as what to do, and even discourage you in showing up as you may not see the results you were looking for (all pain and no gain).
Becoming aware of your thoughts, is just the beginning. Ultimately, the goal is to be in constant mindfulness (like being constantly fit from the gym). Eventually, you find a balance by how long and often you meditate compared to how you started. Your environment would kind of help you find that as it changes wherever you go and what's happening in your life.
By being constantly mindful, you begin to experience life in a different and healthier way. There's so much on this subject that the shortest way to describe this is back to the gym idea: By being fit, you can now do things you couldn't before, feel better, can take on way more of your environment because you are stronger, etc.
I highly recommend it. I believe it should be a core teaching in schools too. All of our mental health's would be a combined blessing to each other.
