Saw a property with 2 acres today and an old ranch house. There's also a barn, shed and chicken coop.

We kih of want to buy it...

We would be 10 minutes farther from everything and giving up a second story and probably a basement/newer house...

Any thoughts, warnings, encouragements?

Can you cook at home to save on the gas/new distance from town? We detest cities, and a good week for me, is one where I don’t have to leave the property. So I encourage the move.

This, exactly!

Depends on your goals. I would say you need more than 2 acres if you will want to grow food and have animals.

Not bad

Should Armageddon befall us, the land, barn and chicken coop become assets. Also if you get a garden and solar panels in there, also assets.

agree, even with Armageddon they are fun adventures to explore

Depending on the layout, that's plenty of land for anything a family would want to produce except for ruminants or timber.

10 minutes sounds like nothing to me, but I just added an extra hour a day to upgrade from .6 acres to 11.7 acres.

that's an awesome trade, what have you learned, seen?

Every homestead project takes more time than you think it will.

Never miss a day of chores. (Proof of work)

Build in time for repairs.

Spend plenty of time just noticing what your property is telling you.

It's all worth it!

Do it. Just do it man. Live my dreams for me

Probably still not far enough out..

I hear you, this weighs on me but it's a trade off we are making to be close to family and kids life

I say go for it. We made a similar decision a few years back and couldn’t be happier.
