The whole "federating" thing is a server oriented notion; that is where the mistake lies. The tamper resistance from applying signatures trivializes the whole question of servers.

Also, the notion of 'bridges' simply betrays the fact that you were stuck on an island in the first place.

The more I see how federation works, the more failures I see (not only technical). Could we make the statement with signed data we don’t need any concept like that? We don’t need big servers, only relays (so instead of federating, it is relaying)

Yes, that is indeed the point, and also the point i tried to make in my FOSDEM presentation.

Form there, there is this inherrent logic to approach things; stuff we are figuring out allong the way like 'outbox', blossom, WoT etc. This is also why imo this is a proper paradigm, where Nostr (NIP01) is not defining the parimeters, but simply the suggestion of taking this step into this whole vast new world.

NIP01 is more like a method, and we can figure out all obvious problems (sybil, spam etc) and not so obvious problems allong the way. Other protocols jump the gun and try to solve for a lot of these things immediatly, and that is probably what kept them stuck in the old server oriented paradigm. Or they went full p2p, which is admirable but just a total clusterfuck by itself.

I think what makes Nostr a 'hard sell'/'difficult to market', is that we dont introduce some flashy new breakthrough tech invention. You can market absolute bullshit, as long as you have this magical 'thing'.

Take Bitcoin for example. For people to 'comprehend' they needed a reason, something to point to and go 'ah that is why this new thing exists and is exciting!'. That became """BlOcKcHaIn""".

Clueless marketing people, managers, sales reps etc. could watch some 5 minute video explaining 'Blockchain', attach some properties to it in their mind, and all the sudden feel somewhat comfortable in the conversation/meeting. 'Ah yes, blockchain' i know what that is, here is a bunch of money to do a proof of concenpt to improve our business processes blablabla.

An entire industry of absolute nonsense, all based on a stupid word, because that appearently is what people need to hold on to to deal with the anxiety they feel when confronted with something new 🤷‍♂️
