This doesn't seem related to AK's post. Yes people used horrible web pages, but they worked (for their purpose). Meanwhile, people didn't know or care about http, or any other "under the hood" aspect.

Of course it is highly related. People will put up with an awful experience to get something they want - like freedom of speech.

The 1990's web had some bad pages, occassionally, but it was not "an awful experience" by any means.
