Seems that way just by looking at the average body type back then vs today

Yeah, look at photos from pre 1971. Everyone is slim, smiling, and happy. Now everyone is fat, frowning, and sad.

Yep, and I think it's because of a number of factors not just one.

Terrible food, sedentary lifestyle, and exposure to chemicals mostly.

I'd also add a demasculinization in the culture too
