Not an expert but i think theres 2 issues.

1 there is no real asic resistant algorithm it think. I beleive Any algorithm can be turned into specialized circuits. The way something like monero does it is by changing the algorithm periodically but that leads to issue 2

2 it's a bad idea because it reduces the incentives of miners. Right now their investments are only recoupable by hashing. The more a machine is general purpose the less the requirements to specifically serve the network.

So I haven't read enough about it but assuming randomx succeeded in fully being CPU optimized: I think large data centers become attack vectors and conversely a major problem for network security since the same data centers could be used for other coutational uses. So monero like algorithm mining is directly in competition with general cloud services for both power and CPU resources
