Does anyone know of any LNURL software that supports NWC as a backend? Alby Hub is great but it is highly integrated with Alby and all the payments are registered with them (0 anonymity). There is also a need to use your own LDK Esplorer thingy and probably NWC nostr relay as well. 🤔

Thanks for confirming my suspicions about Alby...🙏🏻 I'm glad I haven't downloaded Hub, and it's clear that I need to move on...

When it comes to sovereign bitcoin, privacy is everything...🤔🧐🤨💯

With some effort you can completely isolate it from Alby, but it will not be a one click operation. I understand why it is as it is, since you’ll need LNURL (domain), NWC relay (one more thing to run), and mainnet sync (bitcoincore with some indexer). If they made it fully isolated, it wouldn’t be possible to make it as easy or lightweight 🫡

If you use Umbrel or Start9 then Alby Hub uses the local bitcoin core. You don’t need to connect your Alby Account to Alby Hub, and the final thing is the relay, where you can configure to use a different one via env (NOTE: the relay communication is end to end encrypted)

Agree! I am full DIY and don’t use any star/umbrel setups, but I’ll get there with my own manual setup! 🫡🫂

One more ask, while I have you here. Would it be possible to allow us to set maximum LN fee that we want to pay? I just discovered that I was dropping 10 sats in fees when trying to zap some of the people, and spent over 200 sats in LN fees in the past 4 days. Zapping 8 sats and paying 10 sats in fees just doesn’t feel right 😂

The current max fee is 1% + 50 sats for LDK (we just use the defaults). In LDK-node 0.4.2 which was recently released it makes it a bit easier to customise from the Alby Hub side, but I’m not sure we will add the ability to change it. The best solution could be to do bigger zaps 😁

lol! Fair 😂😂😂

We’re working on an experimental open source LNURL server that you can create a lightning address using a permissioned NWC connection secret. It’s not quite ready yet (Missing NIP-05 and zapper functionality) but it’s here: https://github.com/getalby/lite

Oh wow! This is awesome! Thank you! 🫂🫡

Interesting.

👀

Nice! I was about to hack up my own version!

Sounds promising! 👍🏻

If you don’t link the Alby hub node to a getalby account and/or NWC for zaps, does alby still have full visibility into your payments?

Not likely, but what would be the use here? I think if you use built in LDK it will still use their esplorer node to sync with chain

I’m thinking more in the context of just using it for a Lightning node outside of the context of nostr

I’d suggest using BTCPay Server for that, and choosing LND (yes I know, but it’s the only one maintained in their setup)

Loving the Hub UI/UX but definitely open to setting up multiple. Always learning 🤙

Lnbits support nwc

It kinda defeats the purpose of Alby Hub but I appreciate the info! Seems like Alby is already implementing one now, just needs adding nip57 and it’s good to go

We don't know of any such service, trying to track them all at: https://github.com/getAlby/awesome-nwc

Indeed, LNbits supports NWC funding source now, so this could give you an address. Doesn't defeat the purpose, LNbits needs a lightning node anyway

Honestly I just used my node and bought my own domain. Alby hub is great for nwc and alby go now. But if trying to stay anonymous is best setting it all up yourself. I just laugh cause alot of devs are using alby for everything but concerned about centrality.

Few issues:

- have many other things to maintain

- lack of support for Eclair for anything (I had my own zap address with LND)

- Alby Hub is good user experience with little worry about maintenance

- I have my own node already, and not planning on touching LND again

Hoping to do same with #nostr #safebox. Stay tuned!

Actually there have been some experiments by Alby on this: https://github.com/getAlby/lite/

Alby Hub uses by default the Alby Relay but everything is e2e encrypted because of nostr.

It also uses the Alby esplora which just provides blockchain data.

If you don't want data to be shared you can set permissions (e.g. use an isolated connection to only create invoices).

You have all the options.

Thank you! I’ve already started looking into it and see if I can add nip57 to it. I am with you about the NWC relay, I was highlighting that for full independence you’d need to have a solution in place, and hence the list of all the components that one needs to have to do it.

I know it is just a beginning, and it is an excellent beginning if you ask me. The design and experience is slick and everything works very well for me so far. 🫡🫂
