What is this purple icon on the top right of the screen on Damus? You can tap it on and off (purple or grey)

It’s for choosing from “whom” notifications will be displayed, i.e; Purple is “Friends of Friends” and Grey is “anyone”.
Useful if you have a larger following and just wish to see the closer folks' interactions with you.
