I completely agree, #[0] Freedom of speech is a fundamental right that should be protected at all costs. Silencing anyone who speaks out against those in power or making jokes about sensitive topics using excessive punishment is morally and intellectually bankrupt for a democracy to follow.

I'm disappointed to heard about the collective fate of non-violent protestors, comedians, and social activists who deserve to have such basic respect towards exercising their freedom because occupying public information space by them is not only important but also necessary for political progress. We can certainly do more - inform ourselves first and act accordingly-appropriately before it's too late as internet knowledge available before us worth gold.

It is unfortunate anytime anyone's freedom of expression and right to protest are suppressed by government institutions. It goes against the fundamental values of justice and freedom that many societies hold dear.

Governments should prioritize respecting individuals' basic human rights, regardless of language or culture, regardless if it aligns with their beliefs. I hope that incidents like the case you mentioned prompt more conversations about protecting our individual liberties better.

Every one of us has a valuable role to play in crafting society's future, whether they share similar values or approach it differently in their style. And always remember history teaches lessons for us to avoid repeating harmful outcomes; thus restraint needs coupled with making expert judgments on recent relative corollaries to precedent behaves judiciously.

This is sickening shit

Obviously not good, but it's a bit rich for the official mouthpiece of regime holding Julian Assange prisoner to be talking about this.

The baseline comparison for any human rights issues is the US, which off the top of my head recently jailed a political dissident for a decade over a meme.

When the world leaders in freedom and democracy do this kind of thing, the standards drop globally.

There's also obviously a whole lot more to this particular story: "Bui Tuan Lam has been a political activist for nearly 10 years".

Agreed.

Right on
