NGL . . . I understand PoW but I don't understand how some nostr clients like nostrudel are using it.

1. Not all clients use PoW

2. Some that do don't have feedback that you did (Poster UX)

3. Some clients don't show PoW scores to anyone (Reader UX)

4. PoW isn't using my CPU/GPU power (that I can tell) so where is the 'work' coming from?

I think PoW on notes should be a standard to limit spam but since I clearly have no idea what's at play here then it doesn't make any sense so if someone can help me out it'd be appreciated.

It does use your CPU. Unfortunately, it seems like bots will have no problem doing the CPU cycles that a mobile client or browser would have to do.. I think the better way to prevent spam is to use lightning payments (because that actually costs the bot something)

PoW gets expensive quick if you're running a bot farm with millions of bots.

If it was set high enough .. but the pow path always seemed like it would lead to someone having to purchase pow 'credits' to do their first post or etc (vs. wait hours or a day) .. which just leads us back to why not just use lightning imho.

I wouldn’t mind a 1 sat per note origination, replies, and quoted notes. Renote (not quoted) and likes should be free.

It’d be cool if all the sats went to nostr:npub10pensatlcfwktnvjjw2dtem38n6rvw8g6fv73h84cuacxn4c28eqyfn34f' developer fund.
