you get one sat from me.
it ain't much, but it's something.
Why can’t we all agree they serve different purposes? Likes can be just as valuable as #Bitcoin depending on when someone starts here. Cool?
Because they’re not at all equal. That’s why we can’t agree on it. Fuck yo likes.
Less than 30% users zap ⚡️ anyway . You think removing the like button is going to force them to zap?
Someone can like something but not find it valuable enough to zap; and at least for me likes have become a way to discover people who saw and interacted with my notes, and it was the first spark to check out who those people were.
Still love zaps, and have different reaction to likes vs zaps, but I enjoy having the option to make myself present in someone’s notification via like so they know someone saw what they threw out into the ether.
Different degrees of interaction imo.
Likes are value-less interactions. They need to be removed entirely.
I don’t think interactions need to only be about transacting value. And making your presence known is also valuable to me for discoverability.
But you’re entitled to prefer no interaction to likes… I prefer likes to no interaction and then absolutely am very very grateful for zaps. ⚡️
Why would you want a value-less interaction? There are ways to interact that do not transact money. Replies and reposts are excellent. Likes are simply pointless and worthless.
🤙
I guess likes could be replies. Hadn’t thought of it that way 🤔
And some posts/content don’t warrant an interaction at all. I scroll by over half the stuff in my feed and focus on what truly seems interesting, beginning with my notifications. Attention is a scarce resource because time is limited. Give attention to things that deserve attention, and if they truly deserve your attention then they certainly deserve more than a pointless tap on a heart button.
I shall keep that in mind and try to remember not to send you fast tap hearts 🫡
And I shall see if these reflections change my automatic simplified like behavior with other 🤔 I guess new habits may be invited
I was addicted to likes when I joined nostr, both giving and receiving them. That’s how other social media has trained us. I intentionally stopped using it, initially for 30 days, and I couldn’t believe how hard it was to stop, and I noticed how I began interacting with people and content differently.
I was literally about to hit like, and then caught myself. It's like an addiction to a quick high. 🤔
It does happen 🙃🤙
I was just about to do it again. 🥺🤷
The question is, what point does it serve? 🤔
It it the “point” at the end of a convo? 😅
It never hurt anyone to experiment. I’ll try being more thoughtful about my interactions , try to figure out if likes have any role to play, or if it’s better to simply write a reply or zap.
I feel reposts hold another role. In any case, thanks for the time and attention to discuss it 🤙
Thanks to you as well 🙏
There is absolutely no value in this reply 🖕 😃
There is though. You took time to type and send it, and it helps me get to know your personality just a little bit more. Replying to someone is an actual meaningful social activity.
true this
I learn more each day. It is meaningful, isn't it?
💯🫂
You're one of a kind corn. I don't care what nostr:nprofile1qqs9kqvr4dkruv3t7n2pc6e6a7v9v2s5fprmwjv4gde8c4fe5y29v0spz3mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduq3samnwvaz7tmswfjk66t4d5h8qunfd4skctnwv46qzrthwden5te0dehhxtnvdakqae7rfn says about you. 🫂
To clarify... that was my reply, not yours :)
Quiting the like button 😅

But sir, my generational wealth
corndog, it’s called being broke 😂
i see soo many posts i want to fat zap everyday but reality is, i’m still paying off student loans and driving a car older than all the kids i nanny.
not to mention, at least in NY, you can’t zap notes from your phone, only PC. 😮💨
BUT beyond that, in with you on zaps > likes. 🤙🏽
My apologies to corndog, but I'm definitely referring to him in that way from now one.
Yes. I will eventually get confused one day when I try to mention him and nothing appears after typing "@corndog".

Now I really want to just like as a form of rebellion
Both serve a purpose, both have value.
I mentioned on another post yesterday that I appreciate Amethysts 'like' button, because works more as a personalized acknowledgement/reaction button.
That plus zaps is a great combo IMO, still a reframe from likes and reactions are tailored to ones perception of the posted content.
That being said, #Nostr is going to be huge regardless of what fucking buttons it has.
Send it
Likes have no value.
nothing has value,
You just said both have value in your last reply. What do you believe and why are you so uncertain of yourself?
Realistically nothing other than basic human needs have intrinsic value. We as humans choose what we give value to.
Having both reactions and zaps- I can see the value in that. Reactions for acknowledgement & zaps as a reward for top tier content, to me its still a great step forward, and progress from the norms weve created on other social media platforms.
My only concern with OnlyZaps, would be creating a P2W environment, a funnel for the biggest wallets, people only engaging with the biggest wallets in hopes of handouts, and potentially lowering overall engagement with your average user. A platform needs content + engagement to grow, its gamification for users, whether it's a reaction or a zap. It's a reward system that creates a positive feedback loop and people will continue to create, whether for reactions and a bonus if they receive a zap.
The people with large followings at this moment deserve the attention and zaps they receive, and they dish them out as well, but not every person with a name is them, nor shares their values. Many are in the social media realm for personal gain, and not the culture.
The current system is pretty good if I'm being honest, and it's still in it's infancy. I'm here to stay regardless of what route it takes.
I disagree on your perceived value of likes, but I appreciate your thoughtfulness on it. 🫡
It's good to disagree, we're not all supposed to be the same or think the same. I assume we just look at your meme in 2 different ways
I see it as we have this new protocol/platform that's new, refreshing & already revolutionary. We're missing the fact (the ball) by focusing on things like- likes vs zaps.
- Censorship free
- Decentralized
- Open source
- No ads (fuck yeah)
- Users support users
- Organic feel (extremely refreshing)
To me, it's a W as is.
I think you see it as we're missing the revolutionary part of it by not leaning into zaps more. Which is very valid, because it is one of the primary differentiators between nostr & trad social media.
Regardless of what someone believes, I'm just happy that we have a platform that really is for the people.
Zaps make it possible for us to have it. That’s the piece I think you’re missing, or maybe not missing but perhaps not appreciating as much as you need to. Nostr natively supports direct person to person payments with borderless censorship resistant money. Without that, Nostr doesn’t exist as we know it for long. Likes are a useless and pointless relic that never should have been added to the protocol. They are a distraction and a waste of time and resources.
I hereby solemnly swear to only zap and never use the like button again so long as I shall live.
Everyone is poor
You're right! 😃
