Do you consider cashu a bitcoin layer 2 or layer 3? Or is it not a layer at all? #asknostr

If it needs LN, that makes it L3. No?

Its a btc alt whatever it is. No hate. I use it. But its an alt

Layer 3.

Not a layer at all. No unilateral exit to lower layer possible

I would say it can actually be both, L2 and L3, but usually implemented as L3.

Current thinking…

Anything not layer 1 = layer 2

Layer 3

I would consider Esats an L3 as its dependent on L1 and 2 to function, but Ecash as a separate system. Cashu happens to support both.

It's sprinkles, or frosting. Not a layer at all

It's a Layer 3 - very similar to Nostr's NWC. Both Nostr and Cashu are messaging protocols that allow L2s (lightning wallets/nodes) to better communicate to vastly improve the bitcoin payments experience.

Layer 3

Uses āš”ļø for the fast settlement layer

Cashu has unilateral exit to āš”ļø

āš”ļø has unilateral exit to ā›“ļø

Layer 3, along with Fedi & custodial lightning providers like WoS.

It's a layer 69
