Yea the difference is the years…. The 60s and 70s were a decent time. The 80s and later were shit.

I’m talking about releases based around a label vs an artist
It’s like your favorite radio station
But name one label that you know of today?
I can think of two
Electra
Rhino
Metal Blade
Those are ones that come to mind…
Never heard of em I’ll check it out
Century Media (another indie label) is also very good for metal acts.
How did you discover them?
Rhino - they carry titles from older groups (The Monkees)
Electra - Motley Crue and Metallica
Metal Blade - current thrash metal bands tend to be signed with them.
I like metal blade it may work with metal because good metal is hard discovery you used to have to go to tower records and pick the album cover you felt the most connected with
Nowadays I can do that with Tidal.
No way you found something as good as just I did via word of mouth
My impression is that Tidal has a few curators that are legacy nothing fresh
What’s the best new black metal song you’ve found there ?
Could not answer that. I don’t listen to black metal. The last time I paid attention to Doom Metal was Candlemass’ “Ancient Dreams” - stellar album IMHO.
