#asknostr - Simplex has really awful battery optimization parameters it seems - are there any better secure messaging apps like it besides Session? Def don't want to use Signal.

Honestly, it just seems like nowadays the safest bet is to just stick with XMPP/Jabber and/or PGP for secure messaging. I don't know if there ever will be a good third-party, truly independent solution; everything has a trade off that mitigates something else now.

That's exactly my concern - I just wish there was a legit secure one that doesn't have some sort of issues downstream from security and privacy itself.

Never really liked session, I just can't believe SimpleX is the best yet.

If signal removes phone numbers for creating a profile then without a doubt I believe signal will have it but as long as phone numbers are attached anything can be compromised!

I read that they're working on implementing a username system that's not reliant on an email or number - but that was sometime ago and since then I've heard rumors of spook money flowing in 🤷

Yes I read that but that was in 2022 if I’m mistaken… to much time , & new technologies emerging…. Sooner or later there will b a new contender

They handle it really well. Totally anonymous and 5 bucks for life isn't a big ask. Getting it off-Apple is probably better. I've used it for years on iOS and Android.

Fair point.

I guess it's the principle of having to pay for a key even if it is one time - but there has to be a business model somewhere I suppose - at least that's upfront and not downstream from it. Might research that more.

Yeah, they're pretty open about the funding. And, like every other messenger, there's some FUD out there mixed in with real criticism. Threema is far from bad at the end of the day.

Perfect timing too - really didn't think it was that close to releasing. Still wish you could remove a number entirely, regardless if it can be hidden or not. Maybe once out of beta that'll be an option. Promising.

But totally Signal Needs to remove the Phone Number Aspect if they want to get ahead. I tried getting into the Beta On TestFlight for IoS but no more links available till the full version is available

The ease of use and quality balance of security/privacy on SimpleX is top notch.

Signal is definitely much closer - bummer they're out of beta links because I'm curious on hands on reviews and use.
