Yes and no.

Yes, you will need a digital id and this bullshit will make literally everyone get one.

No, you will not show any part of your ID to service verifying you. Digital ID is a digitally signed data structure. That is transferred using zero knowledge proofs into a proof of age and possession of valid digital ID, but is completely unlinkable to anything else. No part of your name, date of birth, etc is going to be transferred to a third party and the proof is done locally on your device.

The problem is, the device is also verified using attestation. Goodbye to Linux, if you don't have Google certified or Apple device, your CPU will not sign a valid attestation.

The whole app and process is completely open source. But you can't run it anywhere and if the code is changed, the attestation becomes invalid. Also no GrapheneOS, etc.

There's more, but this is the core of it.

So you know for a fact that "EU age control" what your question is about, doesn't further identification? I find that naïve to think even if for now it's only a plausible argument to herd people to setup digital ID.

It furthers identification by forcing people to digital ID. The age verification tech does not support identification, there is no way with the app to verify age with identifying, so the platforms would have to use it differently.

You can clearly see it was designed by privacy nerds, which is very sad to see that they would go for it, but here we are.

For me the main problem is the digital id itself, for many reasons, for example there are people who have no ID and can't get one. They will be left out.

And the second problem is you can say goodbye to non corporate computing. It needs Google approved Android (both os and device) or Apple device.
