I made toothpaste that's not terrible, but not great either.

It's an improvement.
Coconut oil and baking soda?
Those are the main ingredients, yeah
Approximately:
1/2 cup Baking soda
3 tbsp Sea salt
1 tsp Menthol
1 tsp Camphor
20 drops Scented oil
1/3 cup solid coconut oil, melted
Could do with less salt, more scent. Maybe less oil for a better paste texture, or a finer grind of the dry ingredients before mixing in the oil.
My opinion having quite some experience with this topic :)
Baking soda is highly abrasive! If you brush your teeth with it every day, it can soon lead to very sensitive teeth. Baking soda is okay every now and then... But what I recommend is coconut oil and activated charcoal. Add essential oil like tea tree, eucalyptus, or mint and xylitol for sweetening. Xylitol also protects teeth.
We started making our own laundry detergent. Big win on price vs fiat “pods” that attempt to fix manufacturer profit per load regardless of size, and overpriced fiat boxes of who knows what. Lots of recipes online with epsom salt, optional borax, washing soda, baking soda, ground soap, optional essential oils. Likely halved our cost per load.
Yeah, it's amazing how much laundry you can get done at a tiny fraction of the cost. And after making my own soap, I've even stopped using my dishwasher and just dissolving grated soap in water and hand washing everything.
After trying a couple laundry mixes, I'm just down to a half cup each of washing soda and oxygen bleach per load and it works great. Borax if I'm washing my shower curtain for the mold.
