oh man my imposter syndrome has been through the roof today. I was handpicked to be a lead security engineer for apac region at my job in the fiat mines and had a soft interview with the Sr Principal to begin the internal hiring process and I think it went well, but damn I hate it when you get asked a basic question and nearly fumble it because your prefrontal cortex starts shutting down due to the stress. 😅

hoping all goes well and I get the role and I'm no longer just doing malware analysis and remediation 🙏

anyone else here work in cybersec eng/grc?

Best of luck 🙏🏼

thank you! 🙌

Good luck! I never got fully into the cybersec area but in a previous job I used to do a lot of firewall work, network security audits, and did a fair bit of work for a customer that had strict PCI compliance requirements. I did consider getting further into security but ended up in telco/ISP networking instead.

cheers m8 🤙

they really can go hand-in-hand in some respects

sounds like what i currently do. Heaps of work with fortigate fw’s

I used to work mainly with Palo Alto or Cisco ASA firewalls. Now I do some work with Fortigates but they are used as CGNAT appliances rather than firewalls.

btw can't zap you for some reason

Which lightning address? Hopefully my Alby address so it goes to my Alby Hub and not the address for my old node that I shut down..

not sure, WoS just says it's not a Lightning address

Weird, I can send directly to the Alby address from my WoS. The old lightning address fails but with an unable to generate invoice error which is what I would expect.

tried both 0xchat and Nostur apps. I wonder if my relays just don't have the updated address. maybe try resaving it?

That’s what I’m wondering.. I tried saving it again.. I have been getting other zaps so it should work..

aye that worked... it was previously stuck on phil@auszap.lol before alby

I updated the address using 0xChat that time.. I don’t know if maybe that updated more relays than when I originally updated it in Damus..

Was in infrastructure/cybersecurity.

Infra I enjoyed, that shit matters and getting it right is impactful.

Cybersec is mostly a bunch of fiat bullshit.

The compliance stuff is busy work to justify consultants who tick boxes whilst there are holes big enough to drive a CCP battalion through if anyone really wanted to do stuff, but there’s no money to fix it because it was all splurged on consultants who ticked boxes saying it’s all good..

And there’s so much FUD going around it drove me mad. Your bullshit detector will go off daily and that becomes draining keeping a straight face in a professional setting when you know someone is talking nonsense.

But probably better coin for you, extract what you can from the fiat mines! Good luck!

haha cheers, what was your role under the security umbrella? I am a malware analyst atm

Looking at helping more on architecture side, etc and who knows either sticking with engineering or go for CISO and care about dick swinging 😂

Worn many hats. Sales, solutions engineer, delivery lead and product.

Architecture and solutions engineering can be good gigs. Decent money and don’t have to sell your soul or put up with too much corporate bullshit.

I wouldn’t be a corporate CISO for all the fiat in the world though - you’re there to be the sacrificial lamb when shit goes wrong and otherwise to dissuade the retards on the Board from the latest nonsense they read in AFR in the Qantas Lounge.

Best of luck and I can so relate to this!

I had an interview for a new job this week too!
