Hashtags are good, I find following a few people you want to follow, then go and follow as many of the people they follow as possible.
There are no algorithms producing content for you here, it's self-curated.
I suggest going through someone's following list, such as Jack's, and start following as many people as you can. Begin interacting with them, and after a few days, it will become much easier for you to navigate.
