This is the same argument as used to defend any totalitarian government. Basically "if we give total power to X, they will use it to hold back Y", and it always has an implicit assumption that X is good and will never turn evil.

He presents "policy changes without party changes" as if it's a good thing, but your country being able to switch between Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping is not the flex you think it is, considering it just takes the next ruler being a little psychopathic to switch right back with some lame excuse. We saw the shit they did during covid. We see what they do in Xinjiang and Tibet. At least America and Europe is relatively predictable. You can see the cultural trends from years in advance. Unless your trying to build a business in a legal grey area, you are gonna be fine if your not completely delusional. Just look how Jack Ma got disappeared with no warning. In China your fine until you're not.

True enough re China, not so sure about your depiction of the contemporary West.

Relatively predictable for us only if we grew up here and if we keep fingers on the pulse. (Who honestly foresaw "sexual orientation" and "gender equality" getting cancelled and replaced?). The West today is intensely ideologically-driven, and governed capriciously and elitely.

If you're NOT building your business in a legally grey area, the ceiling is pretty low thanks to cronyism and regulation.

American milage may very, at least for some states...

Makes it harder but I assure you its very much possible to make good money even in established sectors. Grey areas are tempting if you have a high time pref and aren't properly appraising risk (there is no way to even somewhat accurately appraise political risk but it's usually higher than you think)

You must be in the USA. Here, established sectors are regulated to within an inch of their lives, and nothing new is contemplated without a government grant...
