Importing a seed phrase under the wrong derivation path will make it appear the funds are lost.
Discussion
Derivation paths are usually / should be standardized, but since wallets often don't care, there are lists out there of the paths used by many wallets.

A set of accounts, each with a list of addresses for receiving, and for change.
Load the wrong account and you see nothing.
This isn't technically correct/complete but may be enough.
