My wife’s phone has a cracked screen protector. We have a spare but she is too lazy to replace it. She’d rather just look through the cracks like they don’t exist.

Holy cow I never get why people keep their phone with cracks or big scratches.
All my phones since 2011 were always without screen protector but I never had any major scratch, let alone broken glass. I wouldn't resist 1 hour, I'd be on amazon buying another phone asap

Things like this in my life I consider mental blocks.
When I complete stupid fickle tasks like these my brain is rewarded like I climbed a mountain.
Completing small menial tasks can start a huge accomplishment ball rolling.
And even though your wife says she doesn’t care…. I guarantee she’ll like it after!
