Worth mentioning the start9 website has great instructions for how to install the OS on a computer so you dont need to spend money on their cool little device if you dont want to. I also have a rasbpi running one just because I wanted to play around. To me, it has a lot more to do with what do you intend to do with it. If I was going to run a lightning node/channel on it, I would be more careful, but for checking your own addresses, etc., I don't see a reason to be too tinfoil hat about it

You don't need to have the node running all the time. If you just run it on the computer you tend to use that's fine. The initial sync takes a while, but it's ok if its not always running. Obviiously the network marginally benefits from 100% uptime, but this is your node, so you do you. In the aggregate we'll get it done.
