so it comes to a question of why we use lightning?

yes because unlike wbtc, it is non custodian.

so why are we promoting custodian lightning wallet heavily then??

its in the same reason i dont really understand why people are so allergic with the term smart contracts then happily using centralized exchanges to keep coins

You should try the nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 beta. Full self-custody Lightning. And I hear Lightning addresses are in the works.

I was actually really interested in trying this. But seems its not on android

Yes, it’s iOS for now but there will definitely be an Android version.

Im using breez now, which i like a lot . Only downside is no ln address / lnurl / bolt12.

I was using muun before. The fees can get on my nerve sometimes but the biggest bummer was the lack of channels

Have you looked into running your own node?

Urm..no 🤣

Phoenix Wallet is also a good choice.

Bitcoin has been an excellent store of value so far*

Any extrapolation into the future is speculation.

Some interesting download stats for your point:

Custodial (no privacy):

Chivo >1Million

Wallet of Satoshi >500K

Strike >500K

Bitcoin Beach Wallet >100K

Non custodial (without node, not trustless, no privacy):

Phoenix >50K

Breez >10K

Non custodial (with node, potential privacy):

Zeus >5K

interesting point, although saying no privacy there is a slight misnomer considering they have tor

for breez and phoenix*

and you missed out muun too

You have no privacy from the a third party (phoenix) when sending a transaction to someone.

Muun is not a true lightning wallet. But you can throw it in if you like. Won't make much difference to the ratio of custodial vs noncustodial.

Thanks for the insight!

You know what , it would be really cool if bitcoin could hitchike on the monero network.

Secret network has this feature before (privacy smart contracts) but their sgx was flawed
