Run a node. It’s not hard. You can use a crappy laptop with sufficient storage even. No need for fancy os or hardware.

The easiest way to start is to download bitcoin core and let it sync

From there you’ll want to play around and learn. Look at connection settings. Then try to configure your wallet of choice to connect to your local node. This way you use your own copy of the blockchain to verify your balances and transactions

upon downloading, this is what i see: Apple could not verify “Bitcoin-Qt 3” is free of malware that may harm your Mac or compromise your privacy.

Sounds like typical Apple warning
