No, it's not a distinction between open source and "free and open source" since those are the same things.

The "open" in open source is about freedom of use, not source viewability. If it's not "open" to all forms of use, it's closed.

Closed source software can be source viewable.

Got it, they should stick with one terminology to avoid confusion if they are not already.

I don’t think labelling software that people can download for free, use, share, and modify as ‘close source’ accurate or helpful in understanding the status of the software. The difference between CC’s firmware and iOS is more than just view ability.

Imo, we should rely less on this buzz terms and focus on having companies accurately describe the terms of their products and software on their websites so people can make educated decisions
